This show is called Rookie Girlhood which is inspired by my beloved but now defunct Rookie Magazine created by Tavi Gevinson. It was an online magazine written by teenagers for teenagers and the subject matter ranged from pop culture and fashion to adolescent social issues and feminism.

Rookie magazine was influential because of its nuanced viewpoints on youth and pop culture. I can't watch a mediocre teen movie anymore without thinking Tavi Gevinson has tackled this story better and with more substance. Tavi Gevinson really taught me what it means to be a girl in a way that is headstrong and secure.

The songs I'm playing are unabashedly feminine whatever that may be. This show is an ode to the ingénue underdog, the soft focus and bright eye trope in film, and Sofia Coppola <3
