82nd St: FINAL SHOW!

my halloween mix :) songs that sound spooky or scary, not necessarily halloween themed songs

Bear with me as I get used to my new in-studio show lol

welcome back to 82nd st! TIME FOR NEIL!

This week on 82nd street i drive the bus around the world, stopping in Genoa, Italy for the famous 1979 concert from italo-folk legend Fabrizio De Andre featuring the prog group Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM) as his unlikely backing band! De Andre is an artist I fell in love with after stumbling across a few years ago and he is MY UNDERDOG! the concert recordings were released in 2020, and i chose them as a fun listen to detox from finals week :)

HI GUYS!!!! MY MIC DIED AGAIN! SO I WILL DO MY TALKING HERE

ok welcome to thee kitty's back! my favorite live springsteen track ever (well. maybe. you'll have to tune in in the future to see if that changes) Springsteen wrote this track for his second album, 1973's the wild the innocent and the e street shuffle. After his folksy debut, he wanted to show his audience his blues and hard rock roots (Springsteen's 2nd band was the hard rock jersey shore group steel mill! some of their stuff is on youtube, check it out!). Kitty's back is this homage to his time as a blues bar band, and is a live staple. it cycles through solos showcasing the e street band, starting with danny federici on organ, roy bittan on piano, and then himself on guitar followed by a duet with Clarence Clemons on sax. and even wilder, I GOT TO SEE IT! LAST MONDAY I GOT A LAST CALL DISCOUNT TICKET TO THE BRUCE SHOW 4 HOURS BEFORE THE CONCERT!!!! AND GUESS WHAT HE PLAYED!! A 12 MINUTE KITTY'S BACK! he played for 3 HOURS STRAIGHT GUYSSSS, 2 ENCORES! it was the best night of my life

the other track I want to discuss is the fucking HAUNTING for you, with springsteen on solo piano. This song... originally recorded for his debut greetings from asbury park, the song is a poetic verse pleading to a lover after a supposed suicide attempt. everything about the song is heart wrenching but on the album its a fast-paced organ ditty, and played live he transforms it into an 8 minute piano ballad. The lyrics show the wordsmith talent of springsteen that is often overshadowed. It's also my butch boyfriends favorite song :-) hi jude

this week starts the album bruce springsteen live at the hammer smith odeon 1975,my favorite live show of his(he put them all free on youtube video remastered btw check it out). This is from the early born to run era, and one of the first live recordings of the full e street band! the first hour of the show will be this week, and next week I open with the iconic 16 minute kitty's back :D (my favorite bruce songgg)

OH AND I SAW HIM MONDAY NIGHT I NEEDED TO SEE HIM I SAID FUCK IT AND GOT A 1/3RD OF THE PRICE LAST MINUTE TICKET 4 HOURS BEFORE THE SHOW AND IT WAS LIKE A MIRACLEEE IT WAS THE BEST THING IVE DONEEE I WANTED TO SEE HIM SO BAD BUT COULDN'T GET TICKETS UNTIL I THEN IT WAS CRAZY HE PLAYED FOR 3 HOURS

On the schedule for this week is Etta James Rocks the House! her famous 1963 live album, followed by opening selections from Wattstax, the 1972 concert commemorating the 7th anniversary of the Watts race riots of 1965 in LA. More on that next week!

Also! last week, my mic died. badly. So a posthumous tracklist for last weeks show of sorts: Booker T and the MG's (feat. The Mar-Keys, feat. Otis Redding) live at Monterrey Pop! recorded in 1967, followed by Curtis Mayfield's 1973 album Curtis in Chicago (recorded live!) (feat. the rest of the impressions)
